Hi everyone. David Mango Superintendent of Schools here at Hackettstown Public School along with me today is Mr. Tim Havlusch our Business Administrator Assistant Principal MS. Mellisa Hall Architect of record Mr. Anthony Gianforcaro and our Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Mr. Carl Johnson The reason for the video today is as you know the district will have a vote on November 5th to extend the debt service for the purpose of roof replacments and electrical upgrades. Here at the Hackettstown Middle School we will be replacing certain portions of the roof and electrical upgrades which we will take you on a tour shortly. Before we go on that tour for our electrical upgrades I'd like to turn it over to Mr. Gianforcaro our Architect of Record to just touch on what the roof replacement entails Certain sections of the roof are failing and be on their warranty so those sections we will be completely replacing and as far Electrical Services we will be bringing anew service into the building, which as Mr. Mango stated we go and take a look at. So Thank you we will continue on with our tour of Hackettstown Middle School. Middle School we are in the basement as a follow-up to our earlier conversation outside we are now downstairs by the panel for electrical upgrade which is also as you know a question come November 5th to my left is Mr. Gianforcaro our Architect of Record and he is now going to give you an overview of what if the question should pass what that means to this system here at the Hackettstown school so right now we have the service coming in to the building from outside and where we were standing just before we came in here during that introduction the actual transformers supplying power to this building are located underneath the sidewalk if those were ever to fail it's the building would be down for a long time because of the ability to access that so we will put a pad mounted Transformer we will bring a new service into the building and we will have a new main distribution panel because the existing one is full at this point and if we want to add more distribution panels throughout the building we are limited so that's the extent or our new service coming into the building these are the Transformers that are located underneath the sidewalk in front of the Middle School which will be replaced with a ground-mounted Transformer to bring in the new service into the building Hi everyone we are back here again Ms. Hall and myself we are at the ladder to go up to the top of the Middle School roof right now our custodial maintenance crew are up there taking some still pictures that you will include as part of this overview on to the district website for your review to understand even further the importance of why this question on November 5th we need your support remember we're voting for 41% from the school Development Authority free as opposed to 100% free out of our tax pocket Our Architect of Record Mr. Gianforcaro and joining us right now is mrs. Griffin principle of Hatchery school because as you could tell the landscape from the middle school has drastically changed and behind us is the stamp on the wall of the 1968 imprint of the opening in this building 68-69 year and as we celebrate the 50th year of Hatchery Hill this school year we also celebrate the original roof underneath the deck here so I'm going to call on Mr. Havlusch our Business Administrator to touch on that and then we're going to take a tour to the roof currently the original roof still resides on the deck and there are two additional layers of roofing on top of the original all three layers are failing and by code and statutes we cannot just put another Band-Aid on top you have to remove everything giving me the age and the wear and tear it just makes sense at this point to completely take the roof off down down to the foundation to decking and then re roof brand new roof on Hatchery Hill School so here we are up on the at Hatchery Hill and as you can see as we were trying to explain with the multiple layers it's already becoming so delaminated that it's just it's just failing all over you you can see what it does to your fingers we have our drains that are clogged we have just put so many layers of rubber up on on top of the originals decking that it's time has passed we just need to replace with brand new roof right down to the deck here's a little pan shot of the roof you can see all the bumps where the insulation has failed you can see all the brown spot where water just collects and and then evaporates it doesn't drain there is no evenness or pitch to the roof you can see areas where there just collects where the installation has failed you can see here I'm actually bouncing and insulation is moving under my feet it has completely delaminated and this is not unique to this section but to the entire roof here's another example where the installation has just heaved up so much that it has split it has split a seam this is going to cause a major problem unless it's address properly and with two additional layers on top of the original we need to take it all off and start from the original deck so this again is just a pan of entire roof and you can see all the bumps where installation has failed and risen up through the roof and all of the areas of delamination and areas in dire need not repair but complete replacement and again more brown areas and that's where water collects and when water sits on a flat roof that's a problem because it will find a hole it will find a way through and it will leak into the ceiling. In the classrooms We are now at the Hackettstown High School inside of the storage area where are Transformers which are original 1959 are store high voltage material and I am going to turn it over to Mr. Gianforcaro for more on this these are the transformers that bring power into the building we are being very careful right now this is a very dangerous area all this is high voltage so what we intend to do is put a new pad mounted transformer outside the building and we will eliminate these with the proper safe transformer outside now going to go inside and we want to show you the switchgear that needs to be replaced also remember folks as we've been saying all along original to the building 1959 60 years we're at the switch the famous switch we've been talkin about in our public meetings and in some of our key Communicator meetings where this right down here I don't know if Mr. Morsillo you could zoom in on it this switch if it's ever closed or shut off we don't know if it'll ever return meaning the power so currently how we've been operating I've been here now this is eighth year since 2012 JC p&l when they come if there is ever a power issue hey shut it off from the pole they close all the power from the pole so Mr. Gianforcaro anything you would like to add to this right so what we are planning on doing is putting a new main in when we do the new service we're going to put a new main so that we will be able to turn off the building from here in case of an emergency, a fire or something will be able to exercise the breaker if we ever have to put another panel and we want to tap something week we will be able to turn it off and turn it back on right now we do not have that ability so folks yet again no different then when go through a home inspection on your own home or something that you'd like to purchase yourself it's time 1959 you have just seen two areas of the of the building here in the High School 1959 it's time it's almost 2020 Hello My name is Bobby Grauso I'm the Director of Athletics and the head of physical education and health here at Hackettstown High School we are in our fitness center that was developed about 15 years ago and committee put together at the fitness center that you can see now we recieved a lot of donations and over the years we recieved some donations some that we couldn't use because of the lack of the electrical power here in the fitness center if you look over here there is only certain amount of outlets we were offered three commercial treadmills that we weren't able to use our phy ed staff has put into their curriculum emphasis on fitness and if this upgrade goes through we would be very much able to enhance that curriculum with the proper machines not only for all of the students through physical education and health but also our athletes as they train for their season so as you can see the upgrade would benefit the entire school Kyle Sosnovik principal Hackettstown High School this is just one example of many on how this renovation and the Strategic plan will help our roofing right here you'll see in this location this spot every time it rains from the stains down the wall the tile has to get replaced because this whole area needs to be done the roof needs to be done over some of the classrooms in this area as well as the hallway if you were just to take a walk show you the water damage that constantly happens every time we get rain here in Hackettstown so with that being said you can see right there two wet spots that probably just from this weekend of the light rain that happened so if we get a heavy downpour here for a couple of days it's not easy and if you scroll over to this side you can see a couple more my custodians are continuously replacing these tiles because of this roofing area in this last section is when mr. mango head referred to as the last part of the high school roof that needs to be done so there you have it you have been given a brief overview of the projects that the Board of Education deems necessary to go out for a bond referendum the total cost of the bond referendum is 3.9 million that's the amount of work that has to get done between all three buildings of that 3.9 million the state has agreed to give the Hackettstown Board of Education 41% of the cost what that means every year when the payment is due on those bonds the state will then give us 41% of the payment for that particular year they're not they're not exciting items their basic items they're providing a roof over the students heads and providing the power needed to run an educational system in the 21st century the board of education is seeking your support to fund these projects through the November 5th referendum thank you
