Dear Hackettstown Community,
The special education department at Hackettstown is organizing efforts to build a Special Olympics program in our school district for our students with mental and physical health conditions. We believe that providing this opportunity to our potential student athletes would provide them with the opportunity for a meaningful experience to participate in the same competitions which are offered across the state to the general education population.
Any student aged 8+ is eligible to participate pending a physical from their pediatrician stating that they meet eligibility requirements as outlined from the Special Olympics. The sports which will be initially offered this summer include track and field and bocce ball. Hackettstown School District is hosting the track and field competition at Morrison Field on May 15th, 2022. Available events include but aren’t limited to 25M-400M dash, run or walk, softball throw, mini-javelin and long jump. Student athletes may compete in up to two individual events.
Our Special Olympics team will meet for practices in preparation for the competitions and other activities. If you believe that participating in the Special Olympics would benefit your child, please reach out and contact Michael Rossi at email@example.com. Please notify other parents about this opportunity if you are aware of another student in the school district who may be interested in participating. We are very excited to coach our student athletes and provide them with a meaningful experience.
If your child is interested, the first two steps will be to fill out the google form and participation packet listed bellow. You can email me the finished participation packet directly. Thank you for your support.
Michael Rossi, Occupational Therapist at Hackettstown School District (Team Advisor/Coach)
