Chromebook Information

 

While it is expected that Chromebooks last for several years, we, at Hackettstown Public School District, understand that accidents happen.  For this reason, we offer OPTIONAL Chromebook insurance through School Device Coverage.  This coverage is $27.00 per school year, per Chromebook. If you would like to insure both the Chromebook and the charger, the fee is $32.00

The device protection plan will be effective from the date your submitted application AND payment (or arranged payment plan) are received by School Device Coverage. The protection plan expires July 31, 2023, or when your student graduates or withdraws from the Hackettstown Public School District, whichever comes first.

School Device Coverage will repair or replace the Chromebook in the event of accidental damage. The protection plan will NOT cover intentional damages, in which case the student and parent/guardian will be held responsible for the full replacement or the full cost of repairs, up to the value of the district-issued Chromebook which is $350.00.  Additionally, School Device Coverage will also cover loss or theft given a police report is filed within five days if the Chromebook is stolen. 

If your student’s Chromebook is accidentally damaged, lost or stolen, then your student will be issued a replacement Chromebook at their school site, whenever possible. Any damaged Chromebook will first be examined by site administration and then sent to the IT department at the District Office for further review. If coverage was purchased, you can file a claim on the School Device Coverage website. If coverage was not purchased, Hackettstown Public School District will perform the repairs and the student’s family will be billed for the full cost of repair. 

To give the most flexibility possible, payments can be made online, in full, by credit card. If you would like to set up a payment plan, you can do this through the PayPal Credit option on the School Device Coverage website.  If you would like to pay with a check or certified money order, you can also do so by mailing your payment to School Device Coverage.  All payments are to be made directly to School Device Coverage; schools will not accept payment for insurance.

The deadline for current students to enroll in this optional protection plan for district-issued Chromebooks is November 1.
